16.21 IST   04th Oct 2002

By IndiaExpress Bureau

The Mumbai Police have asked Bollywood actor Salman Khan to surrender his passport until the investigation into his alleged act of ramming vehicle into a shop killing one person has been completed.

Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Ahmed Javed who is conducting probe gave the order.

Salman has been told not to leave the country and cooperate with police in the investigation.

He will also attend Bandra police station as and when required, police officials said.

Meanwhile, Police questioned Salman's cousin and singer Kamal Khan, prime witness in the case, on Thursday. He would be summoned again to give a statement, officials said.

Kamal was with Salman when the actor's vehicle dashed into a bakery killing one person and injuring four others on September 28 in Bandra.

Salman frequently goes abroad for film shootings. Now that he has been asked to surrender his passport, he will have to get prior permission from police if he wants to go abroad.
